Tara Fitzgerald and Maureen Beattie star in Tom Kempinski’s gripping and touching winner of the London Theatre Critics Award for Best Play.

Stephanie Abrahams (Tara Fitzgerald) is a world-renowned concert violinist at the peak of her career. But upon receiving life-changing news, Stephanie is forced to look for a new way to live. Her composer husband sends her to psychiatrist Dr Feldmann (Maureen Beattie), but Stephanie isn’t interested in offers of help. As her beloved music falls silent, Stephanie must dig deep into her past to face an unknown future.

Tom Kempinski’s moving and hopeful 1980 drama has triumphed in the West End and on Broadway, and was turned into a feature film starring Julie Andrews and Alan Bates. This beautiful new production, specially adapted for the OT, is accompanied by live music.

Tara Fitzgerald played the role of Selyse Baratheon in seasons 3 to 5 of the HBO series Game of Thrones. She has appeared in more than 30 episodes of the BBC television series Waking the Dead. Other television credits include Belgravia; Poirot: The ABC Murders; The Strike Series and Churchill’s Secret. Recent theatre includes Hamlet (Young Vic), Women Beware Women (Wanamaker Theatre), Shipwreck (Almeida); The Secret Theatre (Wanamaker Theatre); Macbeth (Shakespeare’s Globe) and Farewell To The Theatre (Hampstead). Recent film work includes: Portraits of Dangerous Women, The King; Kindling; Una; Legend and Exodus and she has appeared in such film classics as Hear My Song, I Capture The Castle and Brassed Off.

Maureen Beattie makes her OT debut as Dr Feldmann. She has recently finished playing Mrs Pearce in My Fair Lady at the London Coliseum after having played Helen in The Scent of Roses at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh. She can currently be seen as Tina in Our House on ITV. Her other theatre credits include Yerma (Young Vic), Nuclear War (Royal Court) and The Ferryman (Gielguld Theatre). Her television credits include: Deadwater Fell, Outlander and Doctor Who. Maureen was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to the entertainment industry.

Richard Beecham makes his OT directorial debut. He recently directed an acclaimed double-bill of Footfalls and Rockaby for Theatre Royal Bath and Jermyn Street Theatre. His productions have been nominated at the Manchester Theatre Awards and the UK Theatre Awards.
