Access

Building work is currently ongoing at the OT in order to make our venue a Theatre for Everyone – improving access, comfort and sustainability for audiences now and in the future – and this will affect some aspects of your visit.

Details on how our development will affect your visit can be found here.

Please email our team at box.office@orangetreetheatre.co.uk if you have any further questions.

We want the Orange Tree to be a theatre for everyone. We run a number of access schemes to make the OT as welcoming as we can for as many people as possible.

Find out more below about accessing the OT, as well as information about joining our Access List.

If you have any questions, please email our team at box.office@orangetreetheatre.co.uk.

We look forward to welcoming you to the OT soon!

Access List

We operate an Access List to make your booking process as smooth as possible. If you have any access requirements, please sign up to the Access List

You can book access tickets by calling the Box Office on 020 8940 3633 (open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm) or by emailing
box.office@orangetreetheatre.co.uk

Stagetext Captioned Performances

Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles. The actors’ words appear on a screen, placed next to the stage or in the set, at the same time as they are spoken or sung. Captions also include additional information such as speaker names, sound effects and offstage noises. For OT On Screen on demand performances these can be switched on or off. These performances can be helpful for people who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing.

We reserve seats specifically in a position to be able to best view the captions. Please call the Box Office to book these seats on 020 8940 3633 (Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm).

Audio Described Performances

These performances have a live audio description of what is happening onstage that can be heard through headphones. These performances can be helpful for people who are blind and partially sighted.

We also offer a touch tour for those bookers who wish to familiarise themselves with the auditorium, set, costumes, and props ahead of the performance. If you would like to attend the touch tour, please get in touch with our box office on 020 8940 3633.

We label seats specifically in a position to be able to best enjoy the audio description with “Best for ADP“. You can book these online or call the Box Office to book these seats on 020 8940 3633 (Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm).

Relaxed Performances

Relaxed performances at the OT allow us to offer a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all audience members.

There will be some empty seats in the auditorium which have been deliberately not been sold to ensure the comfort of all audience members attending each Relaxed Performance. We ask attendees to please be respectful of this and mindful of your fellow audience.

During relaxed performances, the houselights will remain on at a low level throughout the show. We will also reduce the volume of our louder sound cues.

Audience members that need to leave during the performance are welcome to do so, and our front of house team will be available to assist.

If you require a break from the theatre environment, we have a breakout space available in a room adjoining the theatre, as well as space at the front of the building if you would like some fresh air.

If you are someone, or are with someone, who needs to move or vocalise during the performance you are welcome to do so.

And, of course, audience members that wish to laugh, cry and applaud are also very much encouraged to do so!

Level Access

Simply let us know when making your booking if you require assistance entering and leaving the building. We’re always happy to help. We have a ramp and rail, handrails on both sides of staircases, a lift and an accessible toilet. Level access is available to the lower level of seating.

Seating

We have comfortable padded seating. Please note that seats C1 – 19 are raised seats with a footrest.

You can find out more information about our seating, including dimensions, at this link.

Sennheiser Infrared Hearing Facility

For those without a hearing aid who would benefit from amplified sound, we have a Sennheiser infrared system that can be accessed using Sennheiser headsets from certain seats in the auditorium. Please speak to our box office team at the time of booking to confirm availability.

Hearing Loop

Hearing Loops, also known as induction loop systems, are sound systems used by those who wear hearing aids. Audience members can switch their hearing aid to the ‘T’ setting (or the loop programme); this helps to cut out the background noise and focus on only the sounds being picked up by the loop. Supported by Theatre’s Trust Small Grants Programme.

Guide Dogs

Guide dogs are welcome. Please let us know at the time of booking whether you would like your dog to accompany you into the auditorium or be looked after by Theatre staff.

Access Tickets

£20 tickets available through our Access List for audience members with access requirements, plus a discounted Personal Assistant ticket where needed. Join the Access List online, or call or email our Box Office.

£1 Tickets

We want everyone to be able to enjoy a show out at the Orange Tree Theatre, and we appreciate how hard things are for many people on low incomes right now. Please see our £1 tickets page for more information.
