Off the back of their recent recording for Deutsche Grammophon, rising British-Russian baritone Theodore Platt and pianist Keval Shah join forces for this profound evening of music. Celebrated for his ‘warm and powerful’ voice, Theodore is one of opera’s most promising young voices. We are delighted to welcome back Keval who will bring his formidable and creative artistry to the latest Richmond Chamber Series.
The programme is a meditation on injustice and conflict. It also follows the search for freedom from occupation and subjugation, and puts forward a faith in the endurance of humanity in the face of war. The title of the programme is taken from Robert Schumann’s settings of Justinus Kerner, composed in 1840. In his poetry, Kerner laments the suffering inflicted upon humans by other humans, words that resound with desperate potency today.
“The warm and powerful English baritone Theodore Platt.”
