Praised by Gramophone for singing of “incomparable beauty”, Helen Charlston is joined by regular collaborator Sholto Kynoch for Schubert’s seminal song cycle of longing and unrequited love.
Die schöne Müllerin (‘The Fair Maid of the Mill’) is Schubert’s great song cycle of 1823. For this poignant journey from optimism to despair, Schubert sets the folk-like texts of Wilhelm Müller, which were originally conceived as a kind of parlour entertainment. Schubert responds to the directness of the poems with a remarkable musical sequence, perfectly reflecting the journey of the young miller as he strides confidently into the world only to be ignored by the woman he falls for, with his sole companion the flowing brook whose course he follows.
“Charlston’s voice is little short of miraculous… a true star”
The Evening Standard
“Kynoch’s accompaniments are beautifully sensitive, flexible and transparent throughout”
Gramophone Magazine

The church is located on Church Walk, Richmond, TW9 1SN, and offers level access through wide glass doors and parking very close to the church with easy drop-off.
Inside there is a lift to upstairs facilities, a wheelchair-accessible toilet on the ground floor just off the entrance lobby, and chairs rather than fixed pews so special seating can be arranged on request.
A sound (induction) loop system is installed throughout, and if you will need assistance, the church welcomes you to contact them in advance to arrange support.
