Sue Prideaux, with Tom Littler
Sue Prideaux is an Anglo-Norwegian novelist and biographer.
Her family were friends and collectors of Edvard Munch, the subject of her first biography Edvard Munch: Behind the Scream [Yale University Press]. Strindberg kept butting into Munch’s life and she found him so utterly fascinating she wrote Strindberg: A Life [Yale UP]. Strindberg introduced Munch to the writings of Nietzsche, so he was the subject of Sue’s next biography I am Dynamite! [Faber]. All three either knew or influenced Paul Gauguin who was very close to Strindberg in Paris, and Wild Thing: A Life of Paul Gauguin [Faber] came out last year. Her biographies have all been translated into multiple languages and all have won major literary prizes. Strindberg: A Life won the Duff Cooper Prize and was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize.
“Sue Prideaux is one of the finest biographers working today.” The Times
