Elaine has long been established as a singer of the very highest calibre, with a voice and personality that have captivated worldwide audiences through her many stage and television appearances. She has worked on Broadway and in the West End, appeared at concert venues including the Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall, and made regular visits to jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s.

Daughter of the acclaimed jazz trumpeter Leslie “Jiver” Hutchinson, Elaine was born in Harpenden. After eleven years studying classical piano and vocals, she decided to concentrate on a vocal career in jazz, and quickly became acknowledged as one of the world’s finest jazz performers.
Initially Elaine attained fame with her outstanding performance in the critically acclaimed jazz musical Bubbling Brown Sugar in London’s West End. These sell-out shows provided the impetus that took her to Broadway as one of the stars of Jerome Kern Goes To Hollywood.
Elaine is renowned for her classic interpretations of the great American songwriters such as Gershwin and Porter. She has also acted in Ken Russell’s Mahler playing a Bohemian princess, and at the National Theatre in David Hare’s A Map of the World.
She is a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s, and has frequently toured Europe, the US, New Zealand, Australia, South America and Canada. Elaine has also made numerous recordings; a recent album, Nobody Else but Me, was voted into the Observer critics’ ‘Ten Best CDs’ list.
In 2013 Elaine was invited to the Palace of Westminster to be awarded the 2013 Special Award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards in recognition of her outstanding contribution to jazz.
