After her beautiful Valentine’s show in 2018, we are delighted to welcome back to the Orange Tree the multi-award winning jazz singer Claire Martin OBE. She will be joined by pianist and arranger Martin Sjöstedt, to celebrate the release in April 2019 of her eagerly awaited new album Believin’ It, her 20th for Linn Records.

Hailed by The Sunday Times as “Our finest jazz singer”, for over thirty years Claire has held audiences spellbound by her interpretation of song lyrics and her ability to reveal their stories with trademark warmth and authenticity, whilst always remaining true to the jazz tradition.

Believin’ It showcases the dazzling technique and lustrous timbre that has seen Claire become an eight time recipient of a British Jazz Award, in a masterfully crafted collection of songs spanning the last five decades and revitalised through the inspired arrangements of pianist Martin Sjöstedt, fast becoming one of Sweden’s most sought after composer/arrangers.

Highlights include stylish, fresh renditions of popular songs such as ‘Broken Wings’ by Mr. Mister and ‘I’m Not in Love’ by 10cc, alongside some of Claire’s personal favourites by artists ranging from Joni Mitchell to Pat Metheny. There’s a tribute to legendary singer Lena Horne in a swinging version of Horne’s ‘Come Runnin’, and through a mesmerising version of ‘Cherry Tree Song’ Claire honours Norway’s most celebrated jazz singer, Karin Krog.

An unmissable evening of song.

Martin’s long-term commitment to championing the work of songwriters was recognised by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) with a Gold Badge Award in October 2018, and in November she was awarded her eighth British Jazz Award for Vocalist of the Year.
