To support the Company Stage Manager and Production Manager in the effective running of the rehearsal process, the technical rehearsals and during the show run.

Job Title: Deputy Stage Manager

Responsible to: Company Stage Manager

Production Details: The Solid Life of Sugar Water by Jack Thorne, directed by Indiana Lown-Collins (winner of the JMK award 2022). 

This play touches on emotive themes, and audience members will be provided emotive content guidance before attending. This includes themes of loss, and miscarriage. 

We will be working with a team that will include d/Deaf and disabled members, some of whom will have access requirements.

Notable dates:
Rehearsals Start – Monday 12th September 2022
Tech week – Monday 10th October
First Preview –  Saturday 15th October
Press Night – Wednesday 19th October
Final Show – Saturday 12th November

DSM – Responsibilities:

• Fulfil all usual DSM responsibilities during the rehearsal period and technical rehearsals.
• Along with the production manager and other members of the stage management team, liaise with the creative team and facilitate their requirements to the best standard possible.
• Run the rehearsal room to a high standard, ensuring the needs of the company and the director are met
• Act as the conduit for communicating relevant information between the rehearsal room and other departments, ensuring that information is documented and shared where required.
• Complete rehearsal notes and calls as agreed with the Company Stage Manager.
• Keep the show book up to date and legible.
• Operate LX, sound and AV cues as necessary during the run of the production.
• To undertake shared laundry duties and props maintenance along with the rest of the stage management team as agreed with the Company Stage Manager.
• Liaise with front of house team to co-ordinate house opening and show start.  
• Complete show reports in a timely manner and maintain communication with the creative team throughout the run.
• Attend & minute production meetings as required

Skills and experience:

Essential

• Demonstratable experience in relevant professional roles.
• A team player with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally
• Able to cope with the demands of working flexibly for the hours that a theatre inevitably demands

Desirable

• First Aid Qualification
• Some knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL)
• Experience working on productions with variety of access requirements
• Fire Safety trained

Title of post: Deputy Stage Manager

Salary: £448 per week during rehearsals, £468.18 per week during show call plus holiday pay and overtime. Contracted under the UK Theatre/ Equity Commercial Theatre agreement.

Hours: This is a full-time position. Hours are dependent on agreed rehearsal times and show running times. 43 hours per week during rehearsal weeks, and 46 hours per week during show weeks.
