Assistant Stage Manager


To support the Company & Deputy Stage Managers and Production Manager in the effective running of the rehearsal process.  To join the team prior to tech, to support the CSM in the running of tech and dress rehearsals, then during the run to support the DSM in the daily set-up, and running of the show, and to deliver backstage support to the cast during performance. To assist with technical elements as required.

Production Details: A production directed by Paul Miller. Two short plays (approx. 40 mins each) – will be performed both individually and as a double bill (performance schedule being finalised).

Notable dates:
Contract Start – Thurs 13th May (2 days prep before tech)
Tech week – Mon 17th May
1st Preview – Sat 22nd May
Press Night – Tues 25th or Wed 26th May (TBC)
Livestream shows: 3rd, 4th, 5th June
Final Show – Sat 26th June

Responsibilities

  • To join the team for two days prep prior to tech week – to be introduced to the team, the building, and to spend sometime in rehearsals becoming familiar with the shows.
  • Fulfil all usual ASM responsibilities during the technical rehearsals, and during the run of the show.
  • Assist in the technical set-up, running, and power down of the show
  • Along with the production manager and other members of the stage management team, liaise with the creative team and facilitate their requirements to the best standard possible.
  • Support the CSM in the technical rehearsal running to a high standard, ensuring the needs of the company and the director are met.
  • Manage the props and costume setting and maintenance during the show run – liaising with CSM
  • To undertake shared laundry duties along with the rest of the stage management team as agreed with the CSM.
  • To assist the Production department in maintaining COVID regulations around the building, and support the company by following these guidelines at all times. 

Skills and experience:

Essential

  • Demonstratable experience in relevant professional roles.
  • A team player with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally
  • Able to cope with the demands of working flexibly for the hours that a theatre inevitably demands

Desirable

  • Prop making skills
  • Some technical competence/ experience
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Fire Safety trained

Contract and terms

Title of post: Assistant Stage Manager
Salary: £445 per week, plus holiday pay and overtime.  Contract in line with UK Theatre and Equity Commercial Theatre agreement.
Hours: This is a full-time position. Hours are dependent on agreed rehearsal times and show running times.
