The Seminar will include scenes to be read during of the course of the morning from various Pinero plays illustrating the breadth of the author's work. Plays will include Trelawney of the Wells, The Notorious Mrs Ebbsmith and The Magistrate.

Joel Kaplan and Sheila Stowell have been Orange Tree guests on previous occasions, taking part in seminars on Harley Granville Barker, Susan Glaspell and Henry Arthur Jones.
They have both taught in the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham, and are joint authors of Theatre and Fashion: Oscar Wilde and the Suffragettes (Cambridge University Press 1994) and Look Back in Pleasure: Noel Coward Reconsidered (Methuen 2000). Their most recent theatre project has been a production of Oscar Wilde?s A Florentine Tragedy staged in Florence?s Palazzo Davanzati in 2009; a piece based upon the Florentine poetry of the Brownings is planned for the same venue for spring 2011.
John Dawick is the author of Pinero: A Theatrical Life (published by University of Colorado Press in 1993). He was formerly Senior Lecturer in English at Massey University, New Zealand and now lives in York.
Patricia Denison is Senior Lecturer in English (Dramatic Literature) at Barnard College, Columbia University, New York, and is currently writing a book about Pinero.
